Beach Camping

There’s camping, and then there’s Gunn Point beach camping... No crowds, screens or schedules, just a 5km stretch of sand where you can drop a line, go searching for shells and sand dollars, and hunt for mud crabs by day, while roasting marshmallows over a campfire with an epic sunset by night.

Situated a mere hour outside Darwin’s CBD, makes this spot an easy, unique beach camping experience for us Top Enders. Swimming may be off the cards due to the local Salties & Stingers, but don’t let that stop you from a fun weekend at one of Darwin’s best, off-grid, FREE camping spots.

There are two access points to the beach; the north entrance for the more adventurous 4WD/AWD enthusiasts with a mild technical track; or the South entrance, which is more forgiving with a corrugated dirt track and compacted sand all the way to beach. The sand is mostly easy to drive on, however it’s a good idea to bring recovery gear just in case you do find yourself stuck in some soft sand.

This beach camping experience is extremely accessible for both novice and seasoned campers alike. So, whether you prefer a simple tent/swag set up, or glamping in a caravan, this place is definitely one for your NT bucket list!

While Gunn Point has something for everyone, there are a few things it doesn’t have...

·         Bins or waste facilities - bring a bag & take rubbish home with you

·         Toilets - make sure you limber up before going for a bush wee.

·         There’s not a lot of shade - bring your gazebo & remember to slip, slop, slap!

·         Most importantly, there’s no available drinking water - fill up your Yeti’s & bring plenty of water!

Add Gunn Point to your “must see’ adventure list for the upcoming dry season!
